Peace Pays, Palestinians, Israelis, and the
Regional Economy
By Simcha Bahiri and Samir Huleileh with Daniel Gavron.
Peace Pays is a macro-economic analysis of the potential
economic benefits of peace for both Israelis and Palestinians. Using
scientific forecasting methodology, the authors provide detailed
economic scenarios based on the success or failure of the peace
process. They discuss a ten- year period during which time Palestinian
autonomy should emerge and later develop into a Palestinian state.
Their thesis is that peace will be beneficial economically to both
parties and failure to achieve peace will result in significant
negative economic consequences for both sides. September 1993, 127

Trilateral Confederation: A New Political
Vision for Peace – The Just Way to Peaceful Co-existence on both
Sides of the Jordan River
A Final Status Series Publication. This imaginative and creative
work aims at creating discussion and debate about the possibilities
for creating an Israeli-Palestinian-Jordanian Confederation of three
independent states as a solution for long lasting peace. Mr. Hess
has developed and presented a detailed plan for the Confederation
that should be viewed as a mechanism for creatively thinking about
the possibilities rather than as a blue print for political development.
Much of the work is based on economic models and assumptions that
significant economic growth in the region, particularly for Palestine
and Jordan is not only a prerequisites for peace, it is mostly possible
if the borders between the three states are removed to allow for
the free flow of goods, people and capital. January 1999, 115 pages,
